You might have noticed that the publications citing your products are mostly journal articles, but other types such as thesis/dissertation also frequently appear. So what are the percentage of each publication type?
Here we examined about 35,000 citations of a biotech company and here is the result:
Publication Type | Percentage |
Journal | 91.7% |
Thesis | 4.4% |
Preprint | 3.8% |
Conference | 0.1% |
Book | 0.1% |
Award | 0.0% |
As we can see, journal articles constitutes about 90% of all citations, and then thesis and preprint (e.g. biorxiv, medrxiv etc) each takes ~4%. There are also citations from conferences, books, and awards, but the number is very small.
